KUALA LUMPUR, 9 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) development must be driven by smart and sustainable innovation that delivers economic value through higher productivity, job creation and stronger local capabilities, Communications Minister YB Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
Fahmi highlighted the priorities while attending WAIC CONNECT Malaysia 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Tuesday (8 September).
He said the development of AI should support Malaysia’s broader economic ambitions while strengthening the country’s domestic capabilities in line with the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 (AI Nation 2030).
The approach places emphasis on harnessing AI innovation to improve productivity, generate employment opportunities and create greater economic value for the country.

Also present were Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia H.E. Ouyang Yujing; Huawei Asia Pacific Region President Terry He; Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Simon Sun; and Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Honorary President and Malaysia-China Friendship Association President Dato’ Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan.
