PENANG, 14 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) is strengthening efforts to promote energy efficiency and green initiatives through local authorities as part of Malaysia’s push towards more sustainable cities.
PETRA, together with the Energy Commission (ST), presented a session titled “PBT Bijak Tenaga: Ke Arah Mencapai Perbandaran Lestari Bersama PETRA” during the second day of the 2026 Local Authorities (PBT) Convention and National-Level World Environmental Health Day celebration.
The session, held at Bertam Resort Penang on Sunday (13 September), focused on promoting energy efficiency and implementing green initiatives at the local government level.
The presentation featured Puan Khalilulnisha binti Abu Bakar, Principal Assistant Secretary of the Energy Efficiency Section, Sustainable Energy Division at PETRA, and Encik Norazrin bin Rupadi, Deputy Director of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Regulatory Section at ST.

PETRA said local authorities have an important role in accelerating the country’s energy transition agenda and supporting the development of environmentally friendly, efficient and competitive cities.
The initiative is also aimed at ensuring that sustainable urban development delivers meaningful benefits to communities while strengthening energy efficiency at the local level.
