Budget 2027 Allocates RM22.11 Billion to Strengthen National Defence

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Defence has been allocated RM22.11 billion under Budget 2027, an increase of RM361.95 million or 1.66 per cent compared with 2026, to strengthen Malaysia’s defence capabilities, military readiness and personnel welfare.

The allocation was announced as part of the MADANI Budget 2027 presentation by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat.

Of the total allocation, RM14.523 billion has been designated for operating expenditure, while RM7.585 billion will be channelled towards development expenditure.

A total of RM5.34 billion has been allocated for defence assets to enhance the operational capabilities and preparedness of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) in safeguarding national sovereignty and security.

In addition to strengthening defence capabilities, the government has allocated RM957.30 million for ATM housing to provide military personnel and their families with improved, comfortable and conducive living conditions.

The welfare of military veterans also remains a priority, with RM304 million in operating expenditure allocated to the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV).

Meanwhile, the minimum pension rate will be increased from RM1,000 to RM1,350 per month, benefiting nearly 59,000 recipients, including retired ATM personnel and recipients of survivor pensions.

The Defence Ministry welcomed the budget, themed “Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Earth”, describing the allocation as a reflection of the government’s commitment to national security and public well-being.

The ministry also expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister for the allocation and pledged to ensure that public funds are managed transparently, prudently and effectively.
