KUALA LUMPUR, 12 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional transport and logistics cooperation following the 51st ASEAN Transport Facilitation Working Group (TFWG) Meeting, held from 7 to 9 October 2026.
Organised by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT), the meeting took place during Malaysia’s chairmanship of the working group for the 2026–2027 term.
In line with ASEAN’s 2026 theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together”, the discussions focused on advancing regional connectivity and developing a more efficient, integrated and sustainable transport ecosystem.
The meeting highlighted ASEAN member states’ commitment to implementing the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan (ACSP) 2026–2035 and ASEAN Transport Sectoral Plan (ATSP) 2026–2030.
A key area of discussion involved strengthening the implementation of ASEAN Transport Facilitation Agreements to improve the movement of goods and cross-border transportation within the region.
Among the developments was an agreement among ASEAN member states on proposed amendments to Protocol 4 of the ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Goods in Transit (AFAFGIT), concerning vehicle technical requirements.
The meeting also prioritised capacity-building efforts for implementing Protocol 9 of AFAFGIT, which addresses the transportation of dangerous goods.

The initiative is expected to serve as a reference for ASEAN member states seeking to expand sustainable logistics practices across the region.
The discussions also emphasised the involvement of ASEAN dialogue partners, particularly Japan and the United States, alongside private sector stakeholders in supporting capacity development, knowledge sharing and regional transport facilitation initiatives.
These collaborative efforts are intended to strengthen regional connectivity while improving the resilience and sustainability of ASEAN’s transport and logistics networks.
