KUALA LUMPUR, 12 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN) has stepped up efforts to improve public understanding of Budget 2027 through a three-day workshop aimed at strengthening the ability of government communicators to explain key policies and initiatives.
The workshop, held at UTM Hotel & Residence in Kuala Lumpur, brought together 31 JAPEN representatives from across the country, with its closing ceremony taking place on Monday (12 October).
The initiative followed the presentation of Budget 2027 in Parliament on Friday (9 October), as the department moved to ensure that the government’s financial policies and programmes are communicated effectively to Malaysians.
The programme focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to translate complex budget announcements into clear, accessible information relevant to everyday life.
Particular emphasis was placed on helping the public understand how government allocations, policies and initiatives could affect household finances and daily expenses.
The workshop also followed a briefing on current issues related to Budget 2027, delivered by Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican to approximately 1,500 key government communicators.

During the workshop, representatives from the Ministry of Finance shared their expertise and provided participants with information on important budget-related matters.
They included Noni Salmina Abu, Head of Section (Investment Policy) at the Strategic Investment Division, and N. Prakash, Principal Assistant Secretary at the Tax Division (International I).
Their participation supported JAPEN’s efforts to strengthen the accuracy and effectiveness of public communication concerning Budget 2027.
According to a Facebook post by Erwin Khairul Ahmad, who shared the department’s activities, the workshop was organised to prepare JAPEN personnel to communicate Budget 2027 in language that Malaysians can easily understand and relate to their daily financial circumstances – The Capital Post
