PUTRAJAYA, 17 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Education (MOE) is working with the Public Works Department (JKR) to accelerate the construction of additional classrooms using modular construction methods and the Industrialised Building System (IBS).

The initiative aims to address classroom capacity needs while providing safer, more comfortable and conducive learning environments for students.

According to the ministry, the use of modular and IBS construction methods can shorten building completion periods to between three and six months.

For 2026, a total of 97 construction projects or packages have been identified, involving 72 schools across 11 states in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Selangor accounts for 28 schools under the initiative, including six schools in the Hulu Langat district.

The ministry said it is strengthening project planning and coordination with JKR to enable construction work to begin earlier and be completed within the same year.

The approach is intended to speed up the delivery of additional classrooms, particularly in schools requiring increased capacity to accommodate student enrolment.

The ministry also expects the initiative to help reduce classroom overcrowding and improve conditions for teaching and learning.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia, the ministry remains committed to improving educational infrastructure through more efficient construction methods and closer coordination with JKR – The Capital Post
