GEORGE TOWN, 18 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has continued its nationwide distribution of RM1,000 financial assistance to taxi, hire car and school bus drivers, with the latest programme held in Penang for recipients in the northern region.
The assistance distribution programme took place at Dewan Sri Pinang and was officiated by Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook.
The initiative, implemented in phases across the country, aims to ease the financial burden on drivers and strengthen their welfare under the MADANI Government’s commitment to public well-being.
The ministry said the assistance would also help eligible recipients celebrating Deepavali prepare for the festive season.
The special assistance programme, introduced under Budget 2027, is funded through proceeds from the sale of special vehicle registration numbers under the ‘H’ series, which generated RM91.2 million.

According to the ministry, the funding arrangement enables revenue generated from the registration number sales to be channelled towards supporting the livelihood of drivers and the land transport sector.
The programme forms part of the government’s broader efforts to provide financial relief to transport service providers while recognising their contribution to public mobility.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, the phased distribution reflects the government’s continued focus on driver welfare and financial assistance for those working in the land transport industry – The Capital Post
