GEORGE TOWN: Home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) for schools in Penang due to the water disruption will only be until Friday (Jan 12), says Penang Education Department deputy director Wan Sajiri Wan Hassan.
“PdPR will only be until Friday. We hope the water supply will be back to normal by next Monday (Jan 15),” he said when speaking to reporters on Thursday (Jan 11).
Wan Sajiri added that at time being, there are no plans to extend the PdPR yet.
Earlier, he accompanied Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to visit SMK Raja Tun Uda which is among the schools in the south-west district of Penang affected by the water disruption.
As only students in Form Five were undergoing lessons in the school, Fadhlina met them to wish them the best for their studies.
Checks found the canteen to be closed and no water coming out of taps in the school.
Also present was Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin.
Meanwhile, work to replace two 1.2m control valve units which are leaking at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and water works and preventive maintenance projects at 22 other locations was fully completed on Wednesday (Jan 10) night.
Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) expects at least 101 areas in the Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) and Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) districts would receive water supply after 48 hours.
Anothe 157 areas involving SPT, Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) as well as the Northeast and Southwest districts on the island would start receiving water after 72 hours.
It is currently working to complete the emergency repair works of a underwater pipeline in Sungai Perai that was delayed due to a technical problem where one of the clamps specially designed to be placed over the 1.35m long hole on the pipeline could not be properly installed.
