KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need to call for snap polls as the government needs to focus on resolving issues affecting the rakyat first, says Barisan secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories Minister said Umno and Barisan Nasional had reiterated their support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to continue helming the government as part of the “loose coalition” known as Perikatan Nasional.

“The government is functioning well and there is no issue with it being unstable.

“Support among the rakyat has improved and more MPs have crossed over to Perikatan,” he said on Friday (June 26).

Annuar said the rakyat were fatigued due to the endless politicking.

“They are bored of the endless politicking when they are facing various issues such as unemployment, housing matters and homelessness,” added the minister.

Annuar was responding to a call by Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on Thursday (June 25) for Parliament to be dissolved to make way for a snap general election as the country was facing political instability.

Annuar said the Rantau assemblyman’s call was his personal opinion and did not reflect the official stand of Umno and Barisan Nasional.

“That was our official stand when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was appointed the interim prime minister.

“But the matter was resolved after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah appointed the new Prime Minister,” said Annuar.
