KOTA KINABALU: Umno divisions in Sabah have been asked to submit the names of five potential candidates for the 15th general election (GE15) each.
State Umno liaison committee chairman Bung Moktar Radin said the names should be submitted to the state party headquarters immediately.
Bung, who is also a deputy chief minister, said the candidates must be reputable, meet the party’s criteria, and be acceptable to the people.
He said they may not hold major positions at the division level, but the “winnability factor” must be given priority.
“In determining candidates for GE15, the concept of ‘wali’ (winnable, acceptable and likeable) will be the guidelines for fielding the best choices to represent the party,” he said after chairing a committee meeting here last night.
Bung said the list would be assessed by a special committee based on feedback from people at the grassroots level and relevant agencies.-BERNAMA
