National Covid-19 infectivity rate dips to 1.01

PETALING JAYA: The national Covid-19 infectivity rate dipped to 1.01 today, a slight decrease from Sunday’s figure of 1.03, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The R-nought (R0) figure represents the reproduction rate of infections and shows the average number of people who will contract a contagious disease from one infected person.

Sarawak recorded the highest R0 level of 1.26, followed by Perlis (1.25), Sabah (1.19), Penang (1.14), Kelantan (1.10), Kedah (1.08), Perak (1.06), Johor (1.05), Melaka (1.05), Terengganu (1.03), Pahang (1.01).

Four states recorded R0 levels below 1: Selangor (0.96), Kuala Lumpur (0.90), Negeri Sembilan (0.85) and Putrajaya (0.81) while Labuan has only seven new cases.

The health ministry reported 17,672 Covid-19 infections yesterday, a decrease from Sunday’s 19,807.

The total number of infections now stands at 1,572,765 with 260,700 active cases, of whom 1,040 are being treated in intensive care and 502 needing respiratory assistance.-FMT
