KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed deep disappointment over an incident on February 1 at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge, in which flares were allegedly burned by Selangor FC supporters.

In a statement posted on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page, the Sultan, who serves as the patron of Selangor FC, said he does not condone immoral behaviour such as gangsterism and hooliganism, which he noted are increasingly apparent among local football fans, particularly those wearing the Selangor FC jersey.
The Sultan called on police to identify those responsible and stressed that individuals found guilty should face the maximum penalties under the law to serve as a deterrent.
“Firm action is necessary to prevent similar incidents from recurring and to remind all Selangor FC supporters to behave responsibly,” he said.

He also urged supporters to exercise self-control, maintain good conduct, and protect the reputation of the team and the state.
In addition, the Sultan proposed that fans found guilty of causing disturbances be banned from attending future Selangor FC matches.
The statement was issued from Istana Alam Shah today.
