SPOGOMI originated in Japan and derives its name from “sport” and “gomi”, the Japanese word for trash. The concept turns waste collection into a team competition, with participants required to gather and sort rubbish within a designated area and time limit before points are awarded based on the amount and categories of waste collected.

During this year’s competition, participants gathered 371.10 kilograms of waste, substantially surpassing the 100-kilogram target by 271.10 kilograms and reaching 3.7 times the original target. The amount was also around five times higher than the approximately 74 kilograms collected during ADM’s inaugural Malaysian SPOGOMI event in 2024.
