KUALA LUMPUR — Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, has rejected a motion by Ramkarpal Singh to debate allegations regarding Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholding in the House.
“I would like to confirm that I have received the motion on Feb 12,” Johari stated on Monday (Feb 23). “I have looked into it and understand that a special investigation committee has been set up to examine the matter. The special committee is chaired by the Attorney General.”
Based on this, Johari said the motion to debate the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner’s shareholding is rejected, as the panel is already investigating the issue.
Ramkarpal, however, argued that the committee is not a court of law and should not prevent the House from discussing the matter. He emphasized that the issue has drawn significant public attention and deserves debate.
