GEORGE TOWN, 4 March 2026 (The Capital Post) — A 72-year-old woman and her 39-year-old son were discovered dead inside their locked Flat Taman Sahabat unit in Teluk Kumbar, Penang, on Tuesday night, prompting a police investigation into the cause of the deaths.
According to authorities, neighbours became concerned after noticing a strong, foul smell emanating from the apartment in the evening and alerted the police. Officers subsequently contacted the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia to assist with gaining entry.
Responding crews arrived at about 8.32 pm and used specialised tools to break into the unit, where they found the two victims identified as Lee Tet Khim, 72, and her son, Lam Tong Hoong, 39 one in the living room and the other in a bedroom.
Ministry of Health personnel at the scene confirmed both individuals were deceased. Their bodies were handed over to the police for further inquiry.

At this stage, investigators have not publicly disclosed the cause of death. Police are conducting further examinations to determine whether foul play, natural causes or other circumstances were involved.
