China Seeks Dialogue With US but Reaffirms ‘Red Lines’

BEIJING, 4 March 2026 (The Capital Post)— China has reiterated its willingness to maintain communication with the United States while firmly defending what it describes as its core interests amid ongoing strategic tensions between the two powers.

A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said Beijing remains open to dialogue and engagement with Washington, provided discussions are conducted on the basis of mutual respect and equality. He stressed that while China supports continued exchanges, it will not compromise on matters it considers fundamental to its sovereignty and national security.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Beijing’s position on key issues including Taiwan and territorial disputes, describing them as “red lines” that must not be crossed. He warned against interference in China’s internal affairs and said the country would take necessary steps to safeguard its national interests.
