JOHOR BAHRU 10 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- An officer from the Immigration Department of Malaysia has been detained over allegations of abusing the maid permit approval process in Johor.
The arrest was carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following an investigation into suspected misconduct linked to the issuance of permits for foreign domestic workers.
Authorities believe the officer may have misused his position to facilitate the approval of maid permits through improper procedures. Investigators are examining whether the suspect received financial incentives in exchange for processing the permits.
Sources said several documents and related materials have been seized to assist in the investigation, while further inquiries are ongoing to determine the extent of the alleged abuse.
The case is being investigated under laws related to corruption and abuse of power, with MACC expected to continue questioning individuals connected to the matter.
