SANDAKAN 11 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- A senior citizen has died after a landslide struck a hotel area in Sandakan, Sabah, prompting an emergency response from local authorities.
According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, the incident occurred when soil and debris from a nearby slope collapsed and affected part of the hotel premises. Emergency teams were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the landslide.
Rescuers located the victim, believed to be an elderly individual staying at the hotel, who was later confirmed dead. Authorities carried out recovery operations while ensuring the surrounding area was safe.
Officials said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the landslide and assess the stability of nearby slopes to prevent further incidents.
Local authorities have also urged property operators and residents in hilly areas to remain cautious, particularly during periods of heavy rain which may increase the risk of landslides.-The Capital Post
