PUTRAJAYA 1 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Energy Commission has called on Malaysians to reduce electricity consumption and consider installing rooftop solar systems as rising global fuel costs and hotter weather are expected to drive up utility bills.
Energy Commission CEO Siti Safinah Salleh explained that while there are currently no direct government incentives for solar installations, the cost of equipment has declined in recent years, making it a more affordable option for certain households.
She added that rooftop solar is most suitable for homes with high electricity usage and sufficient roof space, whereas medium-consumption households may not see significant savings compared to installation costs.
Siti Safinah also noted that the commission does not set solar prices, but competition among installation companies has increased, with some providers offering incentives to encourage renewable energy adoption.

Regarding the country’s energy supply, she assured that Malaysia’s electricity and gas availability remains stable, though rising import costs for coal, shipping, and insurance are likely to put upward pressure on domestic electricity prices.
The commission further recommended additional energy-saving measures, including using energy-efficient appliances and reviewing household electricity habits to better manage utility expenses.-The Capital Post
