Kuala Lumpur 27 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at midday on Monday, supported by sustained buying interest in heavyweight stocks, particularly in the industrial and telecommunications sectors.

Key contributors to the upward momentum included major counters such as Press Metal, Telekom Malaysia and Petronas Chemicals, which collectively added nearly 10 points to the composite index.

Despite the gains in the benchmark index, overall market sentiment remained cautious, with decliners outnumbering advancers. A total of 492 stocks fell compared to 406 gainers, while more than 500 counters remained unchanged.

Trading activity was relatively active, with turnover reaching 1.71 billion shares valued at approximately RM1.22 billion, reflecting continued investor participation amid selective buying.

Analysts noted that while heavyweight stocks continued to drive the index higher, underlying market breadth suggested that investors remained selective, with broader sentiment influenced by external economic factors and global market developments.

The midday performance reflects a cautious but steady outlook for Bursa Malaysia, as investors balance optimism in key sectors with lingering uncertainties in the global economic environment.-The Capital Post
