Essential Goods Prices Stable Across KL, Perak and Johor

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 May 2026 – Prices of essential goods in Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Johor remained largely stable on Wednesday, although several items recorded slight increases in certain locations, according to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s Price Catcher application.

In Kuala Lumpur, prices for standard cleaned chicken rose slightly to between RM8.20 and RM11 per kilogram, compared with RM7.99 to RM10 previously. Imported onions from India also saw a small increase, ranging from RM2.69 to RM5 per kilogram.

However, prices for super grade cleaned chicken remained unchanged at between RM10.29 and RM10.90 per kilogram.

The prices of 30-egg trays across all grades also remained stable, with Grade A eggs sold between RM11.39 and RM14.40, Grade B between RM9.70 and RM13.50, and Grade C between RM8.49 and RM9.70.

In Perak, checks at several supermarkets in Ipoh found that prices for standard cleaned chicken stayed between RM7.59 and RM11 per kilogram, while Grade A eggs remained between RM9.90 and RM13.20 per tray.

Imported Indian onions in the state also maintained stable prices, ranging from RM1.39 to RM5 per kilogram.

However, red chillies recorded a slight increase, averaging RM10.99 per kilogram compared with RM10 previously, with some locations in Ipoh reporting prices as high as RM20 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, in Johor, standard chicken was sold between RM6.99 and RM11 per kilogram in several supermarkets in Johor Bahru, up from as low as RM6 previously.

Prices for red chillies in Johor ranged from RM5.90 to RM17 per kilogram, while Grade C eggs increased slightly to between RM8.09 and RM13.35 per tray.

According to the ministry, the prices displayed on the Price Catcher application are based on monitoring conducted by enforcement officers at participating premises. -The Capital Post
