Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Aminuddin Hassim Begins Duty As New MOHE Secretary-General

PUTRAJAYA, 11 May 2026 (The Capital Post)Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Aminuddin Hassim officially began his duties as the new Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) effective today, marking a new chapter in the ministry’s administrative leadership.

According to information shared via the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, his appointment replaces Datuk Dr. Anesee Ibrahim, who retired on May 9 after years of service in strengthening the nation’s higher education agenda.

Upon his arrival at the ministry’s lobby, Aminuddin was welcomed by Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) Ahmad Rizal Adnan, who also officially commenced his duties on the same day. He later clocked in at the ministry’s lobby as a symbolic gesture marking the start of his tenure as MOHE’s top administrative leader.

Prior to this appointment, Aminuddin served as Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education Malaysia, bringing with him extensive experience in ensuring the continuity of national talent development from basic education to higher education.

His previous leadership role at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation is also expected to provide a significant advantage in shaping the direction of university research and development while strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem.

Aminuddin has also held several strategic positions, including President of Putrajaya Corporation and Director-General of the National Disaster Management Agency, reflecting his broad cross-sector leadership experience.

He began his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in 1994 and has served in various government agencies, including the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), Public Service Department (JPA), Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

Academically, Aminuddin holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of York in Environmental Economics and Environmental Management, a master’s degree from University of Warwick, and a bachelor’s degree from University of Central England.

MOHE expressed confidence that Aminuddin’s experience in education, innovation, research and public administration will strengthen the implementation of the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint (RPTM) 2026–2035, while driving the transformation of the nation’s higher education sector and improving the competitiveness of Malaysian higher education institutions at both regional and global levels. – The Capital Post
