PULAU PINANG, 18 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Works (KKR) has intensified efforts to expedite the Traffic Dispersal Project between the Juru Toll Plaza and Sungai Dua Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and surrounding areas.
The sixth Special Project Steering Committee (Task Force) meeting for 2026 was chaired by KKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim to coordinate project implementation and address current developments and emerging issues.
According to a Facebook post by Kementerian Kerja Raya Malaysia, the meeting was attended by Public Works Department director-general Datuk Ir. Ibrahim Esa, Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) director-general Ir. Mohd Hadzmir Yusoff, PLUS Malaysia Berhad managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaafar, Penang deputy state secretary (Development) Mohamed Abdul Rahman and senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
The committee reviewed the progress of key project components, including construction works, utility relocation, land management, procurement processes and financing arrangements.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad has implemented several mitigation measures, including accelerating construction activities simultaneously at multiple locations, carrying out works during weekends and optimising the use of high-capacity machinery to enhance site productivity.

Discussions also focused on utility relocation involving Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB), land acquisition matters, procurement approvals, consultant appointments and project financing.
Following the meeting, Azman led a site visit to the Permatang Pauh interchange alongside representatives from KKR, LLM, the Public Works Department and PLUS Malaysia Berhad to inspect construction progress and assess ongoing works.
The ministry said all stakeholders remain committed to resolving outstanding issues to ensure the project is completed according to schedule.
Aligned with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations and the MYJalan initiative, KKR said it will continue strengthening collaboration and monitoring efforts to deliver efficient, high-impact infrastructure projects that enhance connectivity, support economic growth and improve public well-being. – The Capital Post
