KUCHING, SARAWAK, 22 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Gawai 2026 State-Level Dinner, themed “Segulai Sejalai”, was held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), highlighting the rich cultural traditions of the Dayak community and reinforcing national unity through cultural diversity.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia, the event was attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing also attended the ceremony, which featured cultural showcases reflecting Sarawak’s diverse heritage and longstanding traditions.
The event was further graced by Sarawak Governor Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, and Deputy Tourism Minister Chiew Choon Man, alongside federal Cabinet members and state leaders.
Gawai, traditionally celebrated by the Dayak community, symbolises gratitude, harmony and togetherness within Malaysia’s multicultural society.

The ministry said the celebration reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen appreciation of cultural diversity as a foundation for national unity under the Malaysia MADANI framework.
Held in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, the event also underscores the role of cultural heritage in enhancing Malaysia’s global tourism appeal.
Officials said such cultural celebrations continue to play an important role in promoting understanding, unity and shared national identity across communities. – The Capital Post
