PUTRAJAYA, 30 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysians aged 18 and above will have the option of applying for a passport with a validity period of either five years or up to 10 years beginning July 1, following the launch of the new Malaysian International Passport (PMA) by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The introduction of the new passport structure is expected to provide greater convenience, particularly for Malaysians who frequently travel abroad for work, business, education or family commitments.

The 10-year passport is priced at RM350, offering users a RM50 saving compared with renewing a five-year passport twice over the same period.

The new PMA also features significantly enhanced security, incorporating 94 security features compared with 49 in the previous version. These include advanced technologies such as holograms, ultraviolet (UV) printing, latent images and other security elements aimed at reducing the risk of forgery, document alteration and misuse.

According to a Facebook post by Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the new passport will be introduced in stages at 71 passport offices nationwide beginning this July. Existing passport holders are not required to replace their current passports immediately, as they will remain valid until their expiry date.

The initiative is expected to enhance public convenience while further strengthening the reputation of the Malaysian passport as one of the world’s most trusted and respected travel documents. – The Capital Post.
