KUALA LUMPUR, 2 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to an independent and principled foreign policy, stressing that the country will continue to uphold justice, reject domination and defend the rights of oppressed nations amid growing global geopolitical tensions.
Anwar said the world is witnessing a gradual erosion of values that have long underpinned international relations, where power and dominance increasingly outweigh truth, narrow national interests override principles, and international law is applied selectively according to the interests of major powers.
He stressed that Malaysia would not compromise its principles and would continue to champion peace while opposing imperialism and all forms of domination. He added that justice should never be selective and that human dignity must not be determined by geopolitical interests.
The Prime Minister said Malaysia’s foreign policy would remain anchored on independence, firmness and wisdom, emphasising that the country is not aligned with any global power bloc but instead believes that international partnerships should be built on mutual respect rather than coercion.

Anwar also reaffirmed ASEAN’s central role in promoting regional peace and dialogue, describing the regional grouping as an important platform for fostering cooperation and resolving differences through constructive engagement rather than confrontation.
On bilateral relations, Anwar criticised Norway’s recent decision to revoke an export licence for the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) system intended for Malaysia, saying it was not how a strategic partner should treat the country. He added that United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio had confirmed that Washington was neither involved in nor had influenced Norway’s decision.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia will continue expanding strategic partnerships with existing allies while strengthening cooperation with countries across the Global South as part of its efforts to safeguard national interests and enhance the country’s standing on the international stage. – The Capital Post.
