PUTRAJAYA, July 28, 2026 (The Capital Post) – Economy Minister Datuk Haji Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir today launched the OECD Economic Surveys: Malaysia 2026, marking the fifth OECD publication on Malaysia since 2016 and reaffirming the country’s ongoing strategic collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to strengthen evidence-based economic policymaking.
The latest edition focuses on “Improving Skills, Education and Training,” highlighting the importance of human capital development, productivity enhancement and digital transformation as key drivers of a more competitive, inclusive and resilient economy.
The report’s release comes at a significant time as Malaysia embarks on the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026–2030), providing valuable policy recommendations to support the country’s long-term economic reform agenda.
In his speech, Akmal Nasrullah said the report serves not only as a reference document but also as an important guide for strengthening Malaysia’s economic reforms. He noted that the OECD’s recommendations would help enhance productivity, improve economic resilience, accelerate digital transformation, strengthen education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), reinforce governance and advance climate adaptation efforts.

The minister also stressed that achieving high-income nation status should not merely be measured by statistics, but reflected through higher household incomes, quality employment opportunities, improved public services and greater well-being for all Malaysians.
He added that the Ministry of Economy will continue to strengthen collaboration with international strategic partners such as the OECD to ensure future policies and reforms remain evidence-based, high-impact and aligned with the aspirations of the MADANI Economy framework.
