Malaysia, US Reaffirm Defence Cooperation at MILOPS Conference

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin held a bilateral meeting with United States Ambassador to ASEAN Kevin Kim on the sidelines of the 37th International Military Operations and Law Conference (MILOPS) in Kuala Lumpur.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening practical defence cooperation through the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework while underscoring the importance of ASEAN Centrality in promoting regional peace, security and stability.

The discussions also covered regional security developments, including the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border and the South China Sea.

Both parties exchanged views on opportunities for the United States to further support Malaysia’s defence priorities in areas of mutual interest, reflecting continued efforts to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.
