GERIK, Perak, 9 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad today began a three-day working visit to Hulu Perak with a visit to Gerik Hospital to assess healthcare services and facilities serving communities in the district.
Upon arrival, Dr. Dzulkefly was received by Perak State Health Director Dato’ Dr. Feisul Idzwan bin Dato’ Mustapha and Gerik Hospital Director Dr. Hazliza binti Hussin before receiving a briefing on the hospital’s operations and services.
Gerik Hospital has a history spanning more than 100 years in providing healthcare services to the Hulu Perak community. It currently treats and cares for between 400 and 500 patients daily, serving a surrounding population of more than 96,000 people.
The hospital provides a range of services to meet the healthcare needs of the local community, including emergency care, outpatient services, nursing, physiotherapy, haemodialysis, pharmacy, radiology, pathology and visiting specialist clinics.
During the visit, Dr. Dzulkefly inspected the hospital’s facilities and services and engaged with healthcare personnel to better understand their needs in ensuring patients receive quality care.

The Health Ministry said the visit reflected its commitment to strengthening healthcare services closer to the people while ensuring patients receive care that is safe, quality-driven and delivered with compassion.
It added that every improvement undertaken is aimed at providing patients with a better healthcare experience.
Also present were KKM Senior Deputy Director of the Medical Development Division Dr. Izzuna Mudla binti Mohamed Ghazali, Perak State Health Department Deputy Director (Public Health) Dr. Husnah Maizurah binti Ahmad Mahir, Deputy Director (Medical) Dr. Muhammad Najib bin Adnan, Deputy Director (Management) Tuan Velan Suprananiam, Hulu Perak District Health Officer Dr. Wan Muhd Noor Al Hadi bin Ab Razak, and senior management of Gerik Hospital.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of KEMENTERIAN KESIHATAN MALAYSIA, the visit forms part of KKM’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure accessible, safe and quality services for communities in Hulu Perak. – The Capital Post
