KUALA LUMPUR, 9 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – About 1,000 participants took part in the Forest Merdeka Run 2026 organised by the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), combining fitness with greater awareness of forest conservation.
The 5km and 10km runs took participants through FRIM’s forest areas, offering them an opportunity to experience the unique ecosystem while gaining a better understanding of the importance of conserving the country’s forest resources.
The run was flagged off by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) Deputy Secretary-General (Natural Resources) Dato’ Khalid Mohamed, together with FRIM Director-General Dato’ Dr. Ismail Parlan and his deputy Dr. Norwati Muhammad.
The three officials also took part in the climb up FRIM’s Skywalk as part of the programme.

The event was held as one of the activities to enliven the annual National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, while promoting public awareness of the importance of preserving the country’s natural resources.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Sumber Asli dan Kelestarian Alam (NRES), programmes such as the Forest Merdeka Run provide participants with an opportunity to appreciate forest ecosystems while strengthening awareness of forest conservation. – The Capital Post
