Sabah, Federal Government strengthen support for small businesses

KOTA KINABALU, 21 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Sabah Government and the Federal Government are strengthening cooperation to empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives in the state.

The matter was discussed during a courtesy visit by Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) Datuk Mohamad Alamin to Menara Kinabalu.

The meeting focused on efforts to expand business opportunities for hawkers and small entrepreneurs, while strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem to enable more Sabahans to grow their businesses and increase their incomes.

The discussions also covered closer coordination between the state and federal governments in supporting local entrepreneurs and strengthening the cooperative movement in Sabah.

The Sabah Government welcomed KUSKOP’s commitment and that of its related agencies in supporting the state’s entrepreneurship agenda, stressing that close cooperation between both levels of government was important to create more opportunities for local entrepreneurs and stimulate the state’s economy.

Also present were KUSKOP Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Saidatu Akhma Hassan; Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission chairman Lieutenant General (Rtd) Datuk Ahmad Norihan Jalal; Kewangan Deputy CEO Tuan Haji Yusoff Awang; INSKEN CEO Puan Viviante Sarjuni; and representatives from Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia and Bank Rakyat.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pembangunan Usahawan dan Koperasi, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to support entrepreneurship and business development in Sabah. – The Capital Post
