PUTRAJAYA, 5 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) are exploring opportunities to expand postgraduate education, research and academic cooperation involving Malaysians.
KPT Secretary-General YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr. Hj. Aminuddin bin Hassim received a courtesy visit from AIT Vice President for Administration and Development Prof. Siddharth Jabade in Putrajaya on 4 September 2026.
During the meeting, AIT shared its postgraduate programmes and academic and research expertise in engineering and technology, environment and sustainability, management, and public policy.
Discussions also covered strategic areas including artificial intelligence (AI), technology and innovation, climate change and capacity building.
AIT highlighted its longstanding relationship with Malaysia in higher education and research, expressing its interest in expanding opportunities for Malaysians, including students, lecturers, educators and civil servants, while strengthening cooperation with relevant Malaysian institutions and agencies.

KPT also introduced ASEAN GEMS (Global Exchange for Mobility and Scholarship), a platform that brings together information on scholarship and academic mobility opportunities among ASEAN countries.
The meeting provided an avenue for KPT and AIT to explore longer-term cooperation, particularly in postgraduate education, research, academic mobility and human capital development.
Also present were Polytechnic and Community College Education Department director-general YBrs. Dr. Shamsuri bin Abdullah; Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) chief executive officer YBhg. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shatar bin Sabran; International Relations Division secretary YBhg. Datin Noorazah binti Omar; Scholarship Division secretary Puan Marhanum binti M. Haniff; Department of Higher Education Private Standards Division director Encik Husaini Amir bin Azizan; Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) chief marketing officer Encik Shahrill bin Sabaruddin; and Southeast Asia Division representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Encik Mohamed Ariff bin Mohamed Ali.
