CYBERJAYA, 6 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) is strengthening the scientific basis for Malaysia’s climate adaptation planning through a technical workshop assessing climate risks and vulnerabilities in the water resources and coastal sectors.
The Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) Technical Working Group (TWG) workshop was organised by PETRA’s Water Resources Division at Cyberview Resort and Spa, Cyberjaya, on 3 September.
The technical session brought together experts from the Institute of Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), as well as stakeholders from Federal and State departments and agencies.
The workshop focused on refining and validating preliminary findings from the climate risk and vulnerability assessment for the water resources and coastal sectors, covering four identified key subsectors.

The assessment is part of efforts to support the development of the National Adaptation Plan (MyNAP), which seeks to strengthen Malaysia’s preparedness and resilience in addressing climate-related risks.
PETRA said the workshop outcomes would help improve the quality of the assessment report while providing a scientific foundation for developing climate adaptation strategies that are more effective, sustainable and resilient.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Peralihan Tenaga dan Transformasi Air, the workshop was held as part of ongoing technical cooperation involving government agencies and academic experts. – The Capital Post
