KUNDASANG, 10 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is strengthening community-based tourism in Sabah by working closely with registered homestay operators to create authentic visitor experiences while generating economic benefits for local communities.
MOTAC Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism) YBrs. Encik Chua Choon Hwa and Deputy Secretary-General (Management) YBhg. Dato’ Surrendren Sathasivam made an official visit to Walai Tokou Homestay in Kundasang on Wednesday (9 September).
The visit included an engagement session with MOTAC-registered homestay operators aimed at strengthening cooperation in the development of community-based tourism.
Discussions focused on exchanging experiences, views and ideas to identify opportunities and further develop the tourism industry.
MOTAC also highlighted the role of its Homestay Programme in providing visitors with authentic local experiences while creating economic opportunities for surrounding communities.

The ministry said stronger cooperation between MOTAC, communities and industry operators is important to ensure tourism development remains inclusive and sustainable.
Also present were MOTAC Sabah Office Director YBrs. Encik Chong Wai Kit, homestay chairpersons, village heads and homestay operators.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, the visit was aimed at strengthening ties with homestay communities while supporting tourism growth and local economic empowerment. – The Capital Post
