KUALA LUMPUR, 11 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Australia are strengthening maritime cooperation with a focus on sustainability, green transition and building a more resilient maritime sector.
Transport Minister YB Loke Siew Fook received a courtesy call from Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia H.E. Danielle Heinecke on Thursday, with discussions centred on expanding strategic bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector.
Both sides exchanged views on the Green Bunkering Regulatory Roadmap (GBRR), developed through Malaysia-Australia cooperation under the Partnership for Infrastructure (P4I).
The roadmap is scheduled to be launched during the opening ceremony of Malaysia Maritime Week (MMW) 2026 on 29 September at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
Discussions also covered current developments affecting the shipping sector and global supply chains, including the importance of maintaining the safety, smooth operation and resilience of strategic maritime routes.

Malaysia expressed appreciation for Australia’s commitment to bilateral cooperation and hopes to further strengthen the partnership to support a more sustainable, resilient and competitive maritime sector.
Also present were Deputy Transport Minister YB Datuk Haji Hasbi bin Habibollah and senior officials from the Malaysian and Australian governments.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, both countries are seeking to deepen maritime cooperation in areas including sustainability, green transition and sector resilience. – The Capital Post
