LAWAS, SARAWAK, 14 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The RM183 million Lawas Hospital has been completed and officially handed over, strengthening access to modern healthcare services for residents of Lawas and surrounding areas.
Works Minister YB Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi officiated the handover ceremony for the completed 76-bed hospital project in Lawas on Monday.
The new hospital is expected to improve healthcare delivery capacity while providing residents with safer, more comfortable and higher-quality medical facilities.
The project was implemented by the Public Works Department Malaysia’s (JKR) Special Project Team 2 under a Design and Build approach, with MCS Management Sdn. Bhd. as the main contractor.
Construction began on 30 June 2020, with a total allocation of RM183 million.

Also present were Deputy Health Minister YB Dato’ Hajjah Hanifah Hajar Taib; Sarawak Deputy Premier and Bukit Sari assemblyman YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah bin Ali Hasan; and Deputy Transport Minister and Limbang MP YB Datuk Haji Hasbi bin Haji Habibollah, alongside federal and Sarawak government leaders.
The Ministry of Works said the completion of the hospital marked an important milestone in providing better healthcare infrastructure and improving the wellbeing of communities in Lawas and nearby areas.
The contractor has also been reminded to fulfil its responsibilities throughout the Defect Liability Period (DLP), including taking immediate action on any reported defects.
JKR will continue post-handover monitoring to ensure the hospital’s facilities operate properly and meet the required specifications.
