KUALA LUMPUR, 14 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is pushing for stronger regional economic integration through artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation and sustainable investment under the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).
Economy Minister YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Haji Mohd Nasir represented Malaysia at the 32nd IMT-GT Ministerial Meeting held in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, on Thursday (10 September).
Malaysia outlined three strategic priorities at the meeting — economic and geopolitical resilience, the future economy, and green and blue growth.
On economic resilience, Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to the IMT-GT Vision 2036 as the subregion navigates challenges arising from global trade fragmentation.
Malaysia also highlighted the importance of AI, digital transformation, talent development and future-ready skills in strengthening productivity and supporting the region’s future economy.

For green and blue growth, the country called for stronger economic corridors and transport connectivity, alongside greater mobilisation of investment into sustainable sectors that can deliver tangible benefits to communities and businesses.
The ministry said stronger cross-border cooperation could also unlock new opportunities in tourism, halal products, agriculture and investment while advancing shared regional prosperity.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Economy, Malaysia remains committed to building a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable IMT-GT subregion through closer economic cooperation. – The Capital Post
