KUALA LUMPUR, 14 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia has launched the Water Industry Safety Passport (WISP), a specialised initiative aimed at strengthening occupational safety and health (OSH) training for workers in the country’s water services industry.
Deputy Human Resources Minister YB Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan launched WISP while officiating the 26th Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Safety and Health (COSH 2026) at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on Monday.
WISP was developed through collaboration between the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and industry players to provide a standardised and sector-specific approach to OSH training for water industry workers.
The initiative reflects efforts to translate strategic cooperation between the government, NIOSH and industry into practical measures that address sector-specific needs and strengthen worker protection.
Carrying the theme “Wellbeing at Work”, COSH 2026 brings together industry players, policymakers, experts, researchers and OSH practitioners from Malaysia and abroad to exchange expertise, explore innovations and address emerging workplace challenges.

The two-day conference involves more than 1,300 participants, 80 exhibitors and 40 local and international speakers.
Also present at the opening ceremony were NIOSH Chairman YB Chong Chieng Jen; KESUMA Development, Finance and Human Resources Division Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Firdaus Baharuddin; NIOSH Executive Director Dato’ Haji Ayop Salleh; APOSHO Honorary Secretary Ir. Prof. Vincent Ho; and SPAN Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Haji Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman.
