KUCHING, 17 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – A new RM9.98 million Customs enforcement office and seizure storage facility has been handed over in Kuching to strengthen the Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s (JKDM) enforcement capabilities in Sarawak.
The completed project was delivered by the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia, as the implementing agency, to JKDM under the Ministry of Finance.
Works Minister YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi officiated the handover, witnessed by senior officials from the Works Ministry, Finance Ministry, JKDM and JKR Malaysia.
The project was implemented by JKR Malaysia’s Special Projects Team 2 (PPK2) and began on 14 May 2024 under the conventional consultant method, with MSD Enterprise Sdn. Bhd. as the main contractor.
The Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) was issued on 26 May 2026.
The new facility comprises an operations office and seizure storage building equipped with three storage units, a vault, an exhibit room, an open burning area and a more systematic and secure storage system.
It also provides 40 open parking spaces, 20 covered parking spaces, a guardhouse, pump room, water tank and mechanical and electrical systems to support current Customs operational requirements.
The project adopted JKR Malaysia’s Pre-Approved Plan (PAP), adapting the design of the Customs seizure storage facility in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

According to the ministry, the approach helped accelerate the design and implementation process, improve consistency in government design standards and optimise resources without compromising safety or quality.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) elements were also incorporated, including natural ventilation, accessibility for persons with disabilities, safety considerations and a more organised system for managing seized goods.
The new facility replaces reliance on privately rented premises that could no longer adequately accommodate JKDM’s growing operational requirements.
Alexander said the new infrastructure would enable seized goods to be managed in a more systematic, secure and controlled manner while strengthening enforcement capacity.
JKR Malaysia will continue monitoring the contractor’s responsibilities throughout the Defects Liability Period (DLP) to ensure repairs and maintenance comply with the required specifications and standards.
