KUALA LUMPUR, 17 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is strengthening its defence diplomacy through engagements with foreign defence representatives as it seeks to deepen strategic understanding and cooperation on regional and international security.
Defence Ministry Secretary-General YBhg. Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali received courtesy calls at Wisma Pertahanan from defence advisers representing the Philippines, the United Nations (UN) and Italy, as well as assistant defence advisers from Russia and Thailand.
During the engagements, Lokman highlighted the role of foreign defence advisers and representatives as strategic links in strengthening understanding of Malaysia’s positions, interests and priorities within the regional and international geopolitical and security landscape.
He said Malaysia would continue to pursue an open and inclusive approach to defence diplomacy centred on dialogue, with peace, stability and respect for national sovereignty forming the basis of its defence relations.

The approach is aligned with principles outlined in Malaysia’s Defence White Paper, including building trust, managing differences constructively and expanding cooperation in addressing shared security challenges.
The engagements also form part of Malaysia’s efforts to strengthen its strategic defence network while contributing to regional and international peace, stability and prosperity.
