ISKANDAR PUTERI, 29 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The new Johor Bahru Court Complex has been completed and handed over, providing upgraded judicial infrastructure and facilities in Kota Iskandar, Iskandar Puteri.
The project was officially handed over by the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia at a ceremony officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Dato’ Sri Azalina binti Othman Said.
Works Minister Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Public Works Director-General Dato’ Ir. Ibrahim bin Esa were also present alongside senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Department and JKR Malaysia.
Built on a 17-acre site, the project began with site possession on 8 February 2023 and was completed within the contractual period.
The complex incorporates traditional Malay and vernacular architectural elements, with Johor’s identity reflected through gambier and black pepper motifs used in its decorative features.
Cahaya Jauhar Sdn. Bhd. served as the main contractor, with construction using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) and achieving an IBS score of more than 70 per cent.
The complex houses 24 courtrooms comprising one Special Court, seven High Courts, eight Sessions Courts and eight Magistrates’ Courts.

Other facilities include judges’ chambers, administrative and finance offices, an auditorium, library, temporary detention facilities for accused persons, a surau, kindergarten, cafeteria, mechanical and electrical systems, support rooms and a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 300 people.
The development also provides 319 car parking bays, including facilities for persons with disabilities and electric vehicles, as well as 65 motorcycle parking bays.
KKR said the project forms part of government efforts to provide more suitable and conducive judicial infrastructure to support court operations and improve facilities for users.
Following the handover, the contractor will remain responsible during the Defects Liability Period, while JKR Malaysia will continue monitoring post-handover matters to ensure any defects are addressed within the stipulated requirements and timeframe.
