KL20 Records 5,016 Registered Startups

PUTRAJAYA, 7 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – A total of 5,016 startups had registered under Malaysia’s startup ecosystem as of 30 September 2026, with 1,609 new active startups recorded since the implementation of the KL20 Action Plan.

Economy Minister Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah bin Haji Mohd Nasir and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang co-chaired the first KL20 Monitoring Committee Meeting for 2026 on 6 October.

The meeting reviewed progress under the KL20 Action Plan and discussed efforts to strengthen coordination in developing Malaysia’s startup ecosystem.

Key areas included achievements under KL20 initiatives, outcomes from KL20@Penang and KL20@Johor, preparations for KL20@Kuala Lumpur on 19 October 2026, and alignment between the KL20 Action Plan and the Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap (SUPER) 2.0.

Further efforts will focus on strengthening financing, talent development, innovation, market access and internationalisation to improve the competitiveness of Malaysia’s startup ecosystem.

KL20 will continue to be implemented through a whole-of-nation approach involving policy coordination and interventions across ministries and agencies to build a stronger startup and venture capital ecosystem.

Also present were Deputy Economy Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Shahar bin Abdullah, Economy Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Nor Azmie bin Diron, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry Secretary-General Dato’ Ts. Dr. Nagulendran a/l Kangayatkarasu, and representatives from ministries and agencies involved in the ecosystem.
