KANGAR, 12 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The UNITI Sports League (LSU) 2026 Northern Zone was officially launched in Kangar, Perlis, on Sunday (11 October), bringing together traditional and modern sports to promote cultural heritage, active lifestyles and national unity.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Ministry of National Unity Secretary-General Dato’ Haslina Abdul Hamid, who highlighted the role of sports in strengthening relationships among Malaysians while preserving the country’s cultural traditions.
This year’s Northern Zone programme featured two categories of sporting activities held at separate venues.
Traditional folk games were organised at the historic Kota Kayang Museum, while modern sporting activities took place at D’ Futsal Centre in Kangar.
The combination of traditional and contemporary sports was intended to provide opportunities for participants to experience cultural games while engaging in activities popular among younger generations.

Haslina said the initiative reflected the ministry’s efforts to encourage a more active and competitive society without overlooking Malaysia’s cultural heritage.
“This approach provides opportunities for the community to discover traditional games while participating in sports preferred by today’s generation. We want to develop an active and competitive generation without forgetting its cultural roots and shared responsibility in building a united nation,” she said.
The programme also highlighted the importance of using sports as a platform to strengthen social connections and encourage participation across communities.
