BANGI, 13 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) has reinforced its commitment to preventing occupational diseases through the National SOHELP Seminar 2026, highlighting the importance of workplace health risk management and proactive safety measures.

The seminar, organised by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), was officiated by KESUMA Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and International) Dr. Haji Mohd Shaharin Umar at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre in Selangor on Monday (12 October).

The programme focused on strengthening knowledge, collaboration and the sharing of best practices in occupational safety and health, particularly in preventing illnesses caused by excessive noise, chemical exposure and ergonomic risks.

Since its introduction in 2016, the SOHELP initiative has involved 2,621 workplaces nationwide, including 505 workplaces in 2026.

The programme aims to encourage employers to adopt systematic and preventive approaches to managing occupational health risks.

According to DOSH statistics, 5,163 occupational disease cases were reported between January and July 2026, of which 3,713 were confirmed.

These figures highlight the continued need for effective workplace health monitoring, early intervention and preventive measures to protect employees from occupational illnesses.
