KUCHING, 25 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The government will increase the annual Active Rukun Tetangga Grant from RM6,000 to RM10,000 beginning in 2027 to strengthen community programmes and promote national unity.

National Unity Minister Dato’ Sri Aaron Ago Dagang announced the increase during the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Rukun Tetangga Convention 2026 on 24 October.

The RM4,000 increase represents a 66.7 per cent rise, marking the first adjustment to the grant amount in 13 years.

Aaron said the additional funding would provide Rukun Tetangga Areas (KRT) with greater financial resources to organise community activities and strengthen cooperation among residents.

He also highlighted the continued growth of KRT nationwide, with the number increasing from 8,348 in 2022 to 8,670 in 2026.

The addition of 322 KRT over four years reflects growing community participation in neighbourhood-based initiatives, according to the ministry.

Aaron revealed that KRT organisations conducted 101,157 activities nationwide in 2025, covering culture, volunteerism, community economic development, education, safety and social engagement.

He said continued requests from communities to establish new KRT demonstrate public interest in strengthening neighbourhood cooperation and community resilience.

The ministry regards KRT as a strategic community partner in promoting unity and encouraging grassroots participation in national development.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Perpaduan Negara, the increased grant is intended to help KRT organise more impactful activities and strengthen their role in building cohesive communities – The Capital Post
