KUALA LUMPUR, 27 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The government has allocated more than RM130 million under Budget 2027 to strengthen Malaysia’s creative industry, focusing on intellectual property (IP) development, job creation and export opportunities.
Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil, said the allocation reflected the government’s commitment to developing the creative sector as a key driver of the Orange Economy, which contributes 6.8 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Speaking during RTM’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme at Angkasapuri Kota Media, Kuala Lumpur, on 26 October 2026, Bahria described the funding as a strategic, outcome-based investment rather than merely financial assistance.
She highlighted the role of funding and incentives provided through the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and MyCreative Ventures in supporting the film and music industries.

Bahria also emphasised the importance of developing creative brands that balance commercial value with quality, while nurturing emerging talent and supporting experienced industry professionals.
The government is also targeting the development of 20 new animation IPs as long-term economic assets capable of generating recurring revenue through licensing, royalties and the commercialisation of Malaysian-branded products.
