CUPERTINO 12 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- Apple is preparing to introduce a foldable iPhone that will feature an iPad-like interface when opened, signalling a major shift in how its smartphones handle larger screens and multitasking.

According to reports, the device will run a modified version of Apple’s iOS operating system designed to take advantage of a larger internal display. When unfolded, the phone is expected to present app layouts similar to those found on the iPad, allowing users to view applications side-by-side and navigate content more efficiently on the wider screen.

The foldable device is believed to include an internal screen roughly the size of an iPad mini, while its external display will resemble a smaller iPhone, enabling the device to function both as a traditional smartphone and a compact tablet.

Despite adopting a tablet-style layout, the foldable iPhone is expected to continue running standard iOS rather than the dedicated iPadOS system. As a result, it will not support existing iPad applications directly and will maintain a simpler multitasking environment than the more advanced windowing features available on iPadOS.

Apple is reportedly redesigning some of its core applications to include sidebars and other interface elements commonly seen on iPad software, while developers will be able to optimise their iPhone apps to better fit the new larger display format.

The foldable model is widely expected to mark Apple’s first entry into the foldable smartphone market, a category already explored by several rival manufacturers. If released, the device could represent one of the most significant changes to the iPhone’s design in years as the company seeks to blend the capabilities of smartphones and tablets into a single product.-The Capital Post
