SIMPANG AMPAT, 16 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Health (MOH) is assessing the capabilities of local medical device manufacturers as part of efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s domestic production capacity and healthcare supply chain.

Health Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Haji Hasnol Zam Zam Haji Ahmad visited the Medical Device Manufacturers Hub (HPPP) in Simpang Ampat, Penang, on Thursday (15 October), during his official working visit to Penang and Kedah.

The visit aimed to assess the capabilities of local manufacturers and understand their role in supporting the supply of medical devices to healthcare facilities nationwide.

During the visit, Hasnol Zam Zam inspected production processes at five factories operating within the hub.

Among the medical devices manufactured at the facilities are automated external defibrillators (AEDs), orthopaedic products, blood transfusion sets, suction connecting tubes, N95 face masks and hollow-fibre haemodialysers.

HPPP brings together five Bumiputera-owned medical device manufacturing companies under a shared production ecosystem aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s ability to manufacture medical devices domestically.

The hub also adopts a fully automated manufacturing approach, with all five Bumiputera-led companies operating within the same industrial ecosystem.

The initiative seeks to expand Bumiputera participation in the medical device manufacturing sector while promoting greater inclusivity in Malaysia’s industrial development.
