Indonesia dump China to regain Thomas Cup after 19 years

PETALING JAYA: Indonesia ended a 19-year wait to regain the Thomas Cup when they thrashed China 3-0 in the final in Aarhus, Denmark today.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting gave Indonesia the lead by defeating Lu Guang Zu 18-21, 21-14, 21-16.

Men’s pair Fajar Alfian-Mohamad Rian Ardianto then swept aside He Ji Ting-Zhou Hao Dong 21-12, 21-19.

World No 7 Jonatan Christie then sealed the win with a three-set victory over Li Shi Feng, winning 21-14, 18-21, 21-14.

The victory is Indonesia’s 14th Thomas Cup success and the first since 2002.-FMT
