KUALA LUMPUR, 5 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today launched the National MADANI Taxi Renewal Programme at Dataran Merdeka, marking a significant step towards modernising Malaysia’s taxi industry and improving the welfare of taxi drivers nationwide.
Led by the Ministry of Transport, the programme follows the government’s announcement under Budget 2026, which introduced a 100 per cent exemption on excise duty and sales tax for the purchase of new nationally manufactured taxis and hire vehicles.
The initiative is designed to help taxi drivers replace ageing vehicles through more flexible financing options made possible via strategic collaboration between PROTON, DRB-HICOM Group and participating financial institutions.
The programme is expected to strengthen the country’s taxi industry by encouraging fleet renewal, improving service quality and enhancing passenger safety and comfort, while supporting drivers in reducing the financial burden of purchasing new vehicles.
